President Donald Trump is reportedly offering a memo to federal workers, giving them the option to resign by February 6 and receive administrative leave with pay and benefits through September 30, as long as they agree to step down. The proposal is part of Trump’s broader effort to reshape the federal workforce, which includes requiring in-person work, restoring accountability for senior executives, and overhauling the hiring process. The offer could lead to significant savings, potentially up to $100 billion annually, by encouraging between five and ten percent of federal employees to resign. In addition to this, Trump has issued executive orders aimed at ending remote work, freezing federal hiring, and removing protections that prevent employees from being fired. The initiative also bans “diversity, equity, and inclusion” (DEI) policies in federal agencies. The program is set to begin on January 28 and end by February 6.
