On Sunday, former President Joe Biden announced he has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 and metastasis to the bone. The cancer is reportedly hormone-sensitive, which may allow for effective treatment. Biden and his family are reviewing treatment options with physicians.
In response, President Donald Trump issued a statement on Truth Social, extending best wishes to Biden and his family, saying, “Melania and I are saddened… we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
At a Monday press briefing, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Trump and Biden had not spoken directly, but said Trump would be open to doing so. She also praised the medical care available to presidents, referencing Trump’s recent physical and endurance during recent travel.
Meanwhile, Yale professor Dr. Howie Forman raised concerns online, calling the timing of Biden’s diagnosis “odd.” He questioned how such an advanced case could go undetected given Biden’s presumed access to routine PSA screenings.
The diagnosis comes amid broader scrutiny of both Biden’s and Trump’s health and fitness for office as the 2028 campaign cycle begins to take shape.
