Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is facing calls for a Department of Justice investigation after conducting a webinar advising undocumented immigrants on their rights if approached by ICE.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told Fox News’s Sean Hannity it was appropriate to probe the congresswoman’s actions, claiming such guidance could help individuals evade law enforcement. Ocasio-Cortez, responding defiantly at a town hall, said she was exercising her free speech to inform people of their constitutional rights. Critics, including former Border Czar Tom Homan, argue her actions obstruct ICE’s law enforcement duties and may protect individuals with serious criminal records. Homan and Noem assert that public officials should uphold immigration laws rather than undermine them. Hannity questioned whether the issue remained free speech or crossed into aiding lawbreaking. The DOJ has reportedly been asked to look into whether Ocasio-Cortez’s actions warrant legal consequences.
