Former Vice President Kamala Harris is now under protection by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) after former President Donald Trump revoked her Secret Service detail, according to FOX 11. Fourteen LAPD officers from the elite Metro Division have been reassigned to safeguard Harris at her Brentwood home, where she lives with her husband, Doug Emhoff.
Trump’s order ended Harris’ Secret Service protection as of September 1, despite President Biden having extended it for a full year before leaving office. Normally, former vice presidents receive six months of protection, which would have ended on July 21. Local Democrats have condemned Trump’s move as political retaliation.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the decision “revenge,” warning it puts Harris at risk and vowed to work with Governor Gavin Newsom to ensure her security. The California Highway Patrol has also reportedly offered assistance, though Newsom’s office declined to confirm.
Trump has similarly ended taxpayer-funded security for other high-profile figures, including members of the Biden family and Dr. Anthony Fauci, which critics say reflects political retribution.
Meanwhile, speculation about Harris’ political future continues. She has ruled out a 2026 California gubernatorial run but might consider a 2028 presidential bid. Democratic strategist James Carville, however, expressed skepticism about her chances.
