Six American hostages held in Venezuela were released after a meeting between President Nicolás Maduro and President Trump’s envoy, Richard Grenell. The U.S. does not officially recognize Maduro’s presidency, as many believe he stole the 2024 election. The release followed talks in Caracas about immigration and sanctions. Grenell shared a photo of the hostages, dressed in light blue prison uniforms, aboard a plane home. While Trump was not directly involved, he praised the effort, and the hostages expressed gratitude. The U.S. continues to avoid deporting Venezuelan nationals due to strained relations, and opposition leaders, like Edmundo Gonzalez, contest Maduro’s legitimacy.
