Minnesota Lobbyist Charged After Threats to Politicians Amid Capitol Tensions
Jonathan Bohn, a 41-year-old Minnesota lobbyist, faces felony charges for allegedly threatening to shoot politicians at the Capitol. Charged with one count of threats of violence, Bohn reportedly sent disturbing texts, claiming he had 500 bullets and planned to “blow somebody’s face off.” The messages, sent to a former friend on June 18, alarmed the recipient enough to leave a restaurant and lock his home.
Though no specific politician was targeted, Bohn’s Capitol access and the context of recent violence — including the fatal shooting of Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband — have heightened concerns. Bohn later issued a statement attributing his remarks to grief and emotional distress, denying violent intent.
Bohn’s bail conditions prohibit him from possessing firearms, contacting the victim, or approaching within half a mile of the Capitol. His next court appearance is set for August 27. The case underscores growing fears about political violence and the need to cool hostile rhetoric.
