Missouri Republicans Approve New Congressional Map, Trump Praises Move
Missouri Republicans have passed a new congressional map expected to boost GOP control, sending the legislation to Governor Mike Kehoe for final approval.
The map cleared the state Senate in a 21-11 vote Friday after earlier House approval. If signed into law, it would shift Missouri’s congressional delegation from a 6-2 Republican-Democrat split to 7-1, granting Republicans an additional seat ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Former President Donald Trump praised the change on Truth Social, calling it a “much fairer, and much improved, Congressional Map.” He added, “It will help send an additional MAGA Republican to Congress… Wonderful to see Republicans in the ‘Show Me State’ standing up to Save our Country.”
Supporters argue the new map corrects prior gerrymandering that favored Democrats—specifically pointing to Rep. Emanuel Cleaver’s district in Kansas City. State Senator Nick Schroer, a Republican and member of the Freedom Caucus, said the plan improves competitiveness by keeping counties like St. Charles and Warren intact.
“So by keeping these counties together… it’s making that seat more competitive,” Schroer told The Daily Wire.
Democrats, however, slammed the redistricting as a blatant partisan move and criticized Trump for interfering in state politics. Still, GOP lawmakers credited the former president for encouraging the map’s passage.
If signed by Governor Kehoe, the map could reshape Missouri’s political landscape and give national Republicans a potential advantage heading into 2026.
