Sixteen years ago, June’s son Mark died in a construction accident, leaving behind his wife Melissa and their toddler, Emma. At the funeral, Melissa coldly handed June the house keys and disappeared with another man, leaving June to raise Emma alone. Working hard into her seventies, June provided love and stability for her granddaughter.
When Emma’s prom approached, she sadly told June she couldn’t afford a dress. Heartbroken, June sewed a beautiful blue gown for her. But then Melissa suddenly returned, flaunting a designer dress and dropping legal papers transferring the house to her name.
Melissa tried to convince Emma to sign the papers and move away, but Emma refused. She tore up the documents, declaring, “Grandma raised me. This is my house.”
Melissa left in anger. At prom, Emma shone brightly in her grandmother’s dress, celebrated by friends, proud and joyful.
Today, Emma holds a scholarship and dreams of becoming an architect. The house—and their legacy of love—remains where it belongs: with June and Emma.
