NEW: Trump Nominee Confirmed In 55-44 Senate Vote

Scott Turner has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the new Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) with a 55-44 vote. Turner, a former NFL player, is tasked with addressing homelessness, assisting renters and homeowners, and preventing housing discrimination. He brings experience from his role as the director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council during Trump’s first administration. Turner also served in the Texas legislature and emphasized the need for more housing and job creation during his testimony. With a $70 billion budget and 10,000 employees, HUD plays a key role in supporting low-income families, providing affordable housing, and overseeing over 790,000 public housing units. Turner’s confirmation has garnered support from some Democrats, and organizations like the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment are eager to collaborate with him to achieve affordable housing goals.
