Obama-Appointed Judge Grants Musk Access to Student Loan Info

A federal judge ruled in favor of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), granting access to student loan data despite opposition from student groups. U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss decided on February 17 not to issue a temporary restraining order that would block the data release, arguing that student groups didn’t show irreparable harm. The University of California Student Association (UCSA) had raised privacy concerns, but Moss determined that potential violations could be addressed with compensatory relief. The ruling is a setback for Democrats opposing DOGE’s budget cuts. Musk, who has criticized a previous ruling blocking DOGE’s access to Treasury data, has been vocal about his desire to identify waste in government systems.
