On January 31, 2025, a medical jet carrying a mother and daughter, Valentina Guzmán Murillo (11) and Lizeth Murillo Ozuna (31), tragically crashed shortly after taking off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport. The jet, a Learjet 55, was transporting Valentina, who had completed medical treatment, back home. Along with the mother and daughter, four crew members, including paramedic Rodrigo Lopez Padilla, copilot Josue de Jesus Juarez Juarez, and captain Alan Alejandro Montoya Perales, died in the crash. The jet reached around 1,500 feet before crashing into a neighborhood near Roosevelt Mall. The crash also claimed the life of a person on the ground and left 22 people injured, three critically. The crash caused significant damage to 11 residential buildings. Local authorities are continuing to search for any individuals still missing and have urged the public to call 911 if they have concerns about anyone potentially affected.
