President of the United States Donald Trump Speaks About the Washington, D.C., Plane Crash

On January 29, 2025, a tragic mid-air collision occurred near Reagan Washington Airport involving a PSA Airlines Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet and a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter. The jet, operating as Flight 5342 for American Airlines, was approaching the airport when it collided with the helicopter, which was descending along the Potomac River. The crash resulted in wreckage scattered across the river, with at least 30 bodies recovered so far. Both aircraft were severely damaged, and the harsh conditions, including freezing waters and low visibility, made search efforts difficult.

President Donald Trump addressed the tragedy on Truth Social, expressing his belief that the incident could have been prevented and questioning why the helicopter didn’t change course. He emphasized the gravity of the situation and prayed for those affected. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and Vice President JD Vance also expressed condolences, offering support to those impacted by the crash. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, and first responders are working tirelessly in challenging conditions.

The collision, involving 60 passengers on the jet and three crew members on the helicopter, is one of the deadliest aviation disasters in recent years.
