Ilhan Omar Defends Iran, Criticizes Trump; Sparks Bipartisan Backlash
Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) ignited controversy Tuesday by claiming “no one is attacking or has attacked Americans” while defending Iran and accusing President Donald Trump of dragging the U.S. into war on behalf of Israel. Her comments came just before U.S. forces dropped bunker-buster bombs on Iranian nuclear sites.
Omar urged Americans to oppose involvement in what she called “Israel’s chosen war,” drawing swift criticism from Republicans, including Rep. Randy Weber (R-TX), who suggested she “go to some other country” if she dislikes America so much.
Omar’s claim contradicts years of evidence linking Iran to deadly attacks on U.S. forces, including the deaths of over 600 American troops in Iraq and recent assassination plots against Trump. Critics accused Omar of historical revisionism and ingratitude.
In a separate interview, Omar likened Trump’s military parade to dictatorship, calling the U.S. one of the “worst countries” and blaming Trump for eroding democratic values.
Her remarks drew fierce backlash online, with critics calling her comments “hyperbolic,” “ungrateful,” and “out of touch” with American ideals.
