Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) criticized the potential confirmation of Kash Patel as the next FBI director, calling it a “tragedy” for the agency. Schiff expressed concern about the damage to the FBI and DOJ’s morale. Republicans, however, support Patel, claiming the FBI needs to be de-politicized after being allegedly weaponized under President Biden. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) argued that the FBI had been infected with political bias, pointing to investigations into Trump and the Mar-a-Lago document search. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) suggested Democrats fear Patel due to his knowledge of the debunked Trump-Russia collusion narrative. The full Senate is expected to vote on Patel’s confirmation soon.
