Schumer Has Meltdown After Supreme Court Sides With Trump

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer sharply criticized the Supreme Court after it limited district courts’ power to issue nationwide injunctions. He called the ruling “a terrifying step toward authoritarianism” and claimed it gives Donald Trump unchecked authority—particularly regarding Trump’s controversial birthright citizenship order. Schumer argued the Court is “defacing the Constitution” by weakening judicial oversight of executive actions.

However, within hours of that post, Schumer praised the same Court for upholding the Affordable Care Act’s preventive care provisions. The day before, he had again condemned the Court for a ruling he said endangered women’s healthcare. Critics pointed to this rapid shift in tone as political hypocrisy.

The Supreme Court’s decision allows Trump’s order—restricting birthright citizenship to children with at least one citizen or legal resident parent—to take effect in some states, pending further litigation. The move curtails the use of nationwide injunctions by lower courts, which had blocked the order before the ruling.
