Footage captured the terrifying moment flames burst from the engine of a Condor Boeing 757 shortly after takeoff from Corfu, Greece. The flight, bound for Düsseldorf, quickly turned into a dramatic emergency.
At cruising altitude of 36,000 feet, the aircraft’s turbine airflow was suddenly disrupted, causing the engine to sputter and ignite. Flames were visible from outside the plane, while passengers felt the aircraft shudder amid smoke and fire flickering past the windows.
Despite the frightening scene, the crew remained calm and followed safety protocols. Pilots promptly assessed the situation and decided to divert to the nearest safe airport, Brindisi in southern Italy. Emergency teams at Brindisi prepared for an emergency landing.
Passengers were instructed to stay seated and brace as the plane descended. Thanks to the crew’s composure and swift action, the Boeing 757 landed safely, with the fire subsiding before touchdown. All passengers and crew disembarked without injuries.
Investigators are now examining the cause of the engine failure. Initial reports indicate a disruption in turbine airflow, but further inspection is needed before the aircraft can return to service.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of air travel and highlights the critical importance of trained flight crews responding decisively in emergencies.
