‘SITTING IN JAIL’: Fireworks as Republican Goes Off During Pam Bondi Hearing

Pam Bondi, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Attorney General, had a notable moment during her Senate confirmation hearing when Louisiana GOP Sen. John Kennedy questioned her about high-profile figures in prison and the politicization of the Justice Department. Kennedy mentioned Michael Avenatti and Sam Bankman-Fried, both of whom faced legal consequences, prompting Bondi to respond that they were in jail. Bondi emphasized the need to remove politics from the Department of Justice (DOJ), stating that the department had been “weaponized” for years and that it must stop.

Bondi, who served as Florida’s Attorney General, has received strong support from Republican figures, including former Rep. Matt Gaetz, Florida Sen. Rick Scott, Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville, and Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt, all praising her qualifications and leadership. Trump himself lauded her experience as a prosecutor and her work in combating drug trafficking and fentanyl overdoses in Florida. Bondi’s nomination reflects her track record as a tough-on-crime advocate and her commitment to reforming the DOJ.

Her confirmation hearing is part of her path to becoming the next U.S. Attorney General, following her years of service as Florida’s Attorney General, where she was known for her legal expertise and leadership on criminal justice issues.
