Speaker Johnson Begins Release Of All Jan. 6 Surveillance Footage

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) is following through on his promise to release nearly all video footage from the January 6 Capitol riot. He announced that over 44,000 hours of footage will be made public, with private citizens’ faces blurred and about 5% withheld for security reasons.

A public website and viewing room are now available, with 90 hours already posted. Johnson emphasized transparency and praised Rep. Barry Loudermilk’s team for processing the videos.

Reps. Matt Gaetz and Chip Roy applauded the move, calling it a win for transparency. Gaetz also pushed for more cameras on the House floor, saying government transparency is often blocked by its own institutions.
