House Speaker Mike Johnson is strongly backing President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax and spending package, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” calling it a fulfillment of Republican promises to prioritize American interests. The House GOP highlights historic investments in border security and significant mandatory spending cuts included in the bill. The legislation, now under Senate review, aims to be passed by the July 4 deadline and sent to the president for signature. Johnson told the Daily Caller News Foundation that the bill delivers on promises to put Americans first, featuring historic funding for border enforcement, tax incentives encouraging domestic economic activity, and provisions preventing illegal immigrants from accessing taxpayer benefits.
The bill allocates \$150 billion for immigration enforcement, including hiring up to 3,000 new Border Patrol agents and 5,000 customs officers. Paul Perez, president of the National Border Patrol Council, praised it as a “once in a generation investment.” The bill also funds about 10,000 new ICE agents and Homeland Security criminal investigators to boost deportation efforts. Additionally, the package provides around \$12 billion in reimbursements to border states, addressing costs incurred due to illegal immigration surges. The Senate version increases this to \$13.5 billion, partly thanks to efforts from Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn. Senate Republicans aim to approve the bill soon, with a House vote expected before it reaches President Trump for signing. Regarding deportation, the bill’s provisions clearly support increased deportations of illegal immigrants as a key policy priority.
