Charlie Kirk Shot at Utah Valley University Event
Charlie Kirk, executive director of Turning Point USA (TPUSA) and a prominent right-wing activist, was shot Wednesday while hosting the “American Comeback Tour” event at Utah Valley University, CNN reports.
The shooting occurred in the university’s courtyard under a tent, where Kirk was speaking. Social media footage shows Kirk being struck, with students fleeing after hearing the gunshot.
TPUSA confirmed Kirk was shot, but his condition remains unknown. Utah Valley University police also verified the shooting but provided limited details.
Political leaders quickly responded with concern and prayers. Utah Senator Mike Lee tweeted, “Please join me in praying for Charlie Kirk and the students gathered there.” Utah Senator Ashley Moody also expressed her prayers for Kirk, the students, and the nation.
Vice President J.D. Vance called for prayers for Kirk, describing him as “a genuinely good guy and a young father.” Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth praised Kirk as “an incredible Christian, American, and human being,” wishing him healing. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the bureau was monitoring the situation closely and would support the investigation.
California Governor Gavin Newsom condemned the attack, calling it “disgusting, vile, and reprehensible,” and stressed rejecting political violence in all forms.
The shooting happened shortly after Kirk posted on social media, “WE. ARE. SO. BACK. Utah Valley University is FIRED UP and READY for the first stop back on the American Comeback Tour.”
Authorities are investigating and more information is expected.
