Trump Hasn’t Spoken To Walz as DOJ Involved After Minn. Lawmaker Shootings

President Donald Trump has not spoken directly with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz following the shocking political assassinations of Democratic state lawmakers. In an interview with ABC News’ Rachel Scott, Trump condemned the violence but sharply criticized Walz, calling him a “terrible governor” and “grossly incompetent.” “Well, it’s a terrible thing,” Trump said. “But I may call him, I may call other people too.” The attack, which left Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman, her husband, and State Senator John Hoffman and his wife dead, has rocked the state. The suspect, 57-year-old Vance Boelter, was apprehended after a two-day manhunt. Authorities described his arrest as the result of coordinated efforts by federal, state, and local law enforcement.

Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the Department of Justice is investigating, with the FBI “fully engaged,” according to Deputy Director Dan Bongino. Former NFL player and Minnesota resident Jack Brewer also spoke out, blaming Walz’s leadership for what he described as rising chaos in the state. “Minnesota has become the capital of chaos in America,” Brewer said. Boelter was found with signs reading “No Kings,” a slogan associated with protests against perceived authoritarianism. The killings occurred amid “No Kings” demonstrations nationwide in response to federal immigration enforcement. As Minnesota reels from this targeted political violence, tensions continue to rise over leadership, public safety, and the political climate.
