Former President Donald Trump took aim at prominent Democrats in a series of Truth Social posts on Wednesday, sarcastically suggesting they nominate Rep. Jasmine Crockett for president and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, along with her “Squad” allies, for top cabinet roles. He also mocked New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani, a progressive who recently won the Democratic mayoral primary, calling him a “100% Communist Lunatic.” Trump claimed these figures represent the radicalization of the Democratic Party and warned their rise would leave the country “screwed.” His remarks followed harsh criticism from Crockett and Ocasio-Cortez over his immigration policies, economic decisions, and his recent military actions in Iran. Ocasio-Cortez even called for Trump’s impeachment for failing to seek congressional approval for the strikes.
Meanwhile, Crockett ended her bid to become the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, stating that her leadership style didn’t align with what her colleagues wanted. She finished last in an internal vote, losing to Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.). Despite the defeat, she promised to stay active and outspoken in the party. Crockett also sparked controversy during a recent interview with Katie Couric, where she described Trump supporters as “sick” and “mentally ill,” claiming the former president had caused a national mental health crisis. She criticized a military parade celebrating the Army’s 250th anniversary, accusing organizers of politicizing service members. Despite backlash, Crockett reaffirmed her commitment to pushing progressive priorities within the Democratic Party.
