Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that Mexico would deploy 10,000 troops to the U.S.-Mexico border in exchange for a one-month pause on President Donald Trump’s planned tariffs. The decision, made during a conversation between Trump and Sheinbaum, also includes joint efforts to combat firearms trafficking into Mexico and drug trafficking into the U.S. Trump confirmed the agreement, describing their conversation as friendly and emphasizing the role of U.S. officials in ongoing negotiations. The pause in tariffs is set for one month, and discussions on broader trade and security issues are underway. Meanwhile, Trump also warned about the Panama Canal, claiming China’s growing influence violated agreements and suggesting strong actions if the U.S. does not regain control.
