Dash cam footage has emerged of Democratic South Carolina gubernatorial candidate William “Mullins” McLeod’s chaotic May arrest in Charleston. The 53-year-old attorney was found wearing only underwear and shoes, yelling incoherently, and claiming to be “God” and “Superman.” Police noted behavior consistent with stimulant use, though no substances were confirmed.
In the video, McLeod refuses to identify himself and makes aggressive and bizarre remarks, referencing his campaign and threatening Republican Attorney General Alan Wilson. He also used racial slurs, resisted arrest, and later refused to exit the patrol car, saying, “It’s time to go to bed.”
Charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, McLeod was booked into jail around 1 a.m. A police report mentioned his bloodshot eyes and dilated pupils.
The South Carolina Democratic Party has urged McLeod to exit the race. Party Chair Christale Spain said he appears to be facing serious personal issues and should prioritize his health.
McLeod, who ran for governor in 2010, has not commented since the video’s release but previously called his arrest “unlawful” and politically motivated.
