President Donald Trump’s comprehensive tax and immigration bill is nearing final approval in Congress, with a vote in the Senate expected as soon as Monday evening. If passed, the bill will proceed to the House for final endorsement before heading to Trump’s desk. The legislation includes a permanent extension of the 2017 tax cuts, elimination of taxes on tips and overtime pay, and boosts to the child tax credit. It also introduces a $1,000 savings account for every newborn.
Residents of Minnesota’s 6th District, represented by House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, have voiced strong support for the bill, citing anticipated benefits like increased take-home pay and reduced financial strain. According to the Senate Finance Committee, letting the 2017 cuts expire would cost a median-income family of four about $1,700 annually. A White House economic report estimates the bill could raise income by $7,800 for a typical family with two children.
Trump has set July 4 as the deadline to sign the bill, calling it a key part of his agenda.
