Pennsylvania Mom Tragically Killed by Falling Tree Branches at Daughter’s Softball Event
While watching her daughter play at a McKeesport softball showcase, 49-year-old Gendie Miller tragically lost her life when large tree branches collapsed onto her. She and her husband, Bill, were sitting beneath a tree at Renziehausen Park on July 23 to escape the 90-degree heat when Bill heard cracking above and urged her to move. Before she could react, several heavy branches, some over 10 inches thick, struck Gendie in the head.
Emergency services rushed her to Forbes Hospital Trauma Center in Monroeville, but she stopped breathing en route and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Gendie was remembered as a devoted mother who never missed her daughter Marlee’s practices or games. Her passing has shaken her family and the local softball community. A GoFundMe launched by Marlee’s coach has raised over $49,000 to support the family.
City officials called the incident a tragic accident. Though no foul play is suspected, it has prompted concerns over tree maintenance in public parks.
Gendie’s memory lives on through her family, friends, and the many lives she touched.
