President Donald Trump’s White House issued termination notices to several U.S. Attorneys appointed by President Joe Biden, signaling a push to replace officials who might resist directives from the new administration. The White House sent an email informing the recipients, “At the direction of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as U.S. Attorney is terminated, effective immediately.” While such resignations are common with a presidential transition, the terse termination letters were unusual. Among those removed were Tara McGrath of San Diego and Erek Barron of Maryland. Other Biden-appointed U.S. Attorneys, including Tessa Gorman of Seattle, also resigned. At least three Biden appointees remained in their positions as of Thursday.
