Why newly proposed bill would let Trump run for a third term but not Obama

Rep. Andy Ogles has proposed a bill to amend the 22nd Amendment, allowing Donald Trump to run for a third presidential term. Ogles argues that Trump needs eight years to restore America to “greatness” and reverse its decline. The amendment would also prevent former Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton from running again. The proposed change would permit three presidential terms but bar someone who has served two consecutive terms from seeking office again. Experts believe the proposal has little chance of passing due to the constitutional and political challenges it faces, requiring a supermajority in both houses of Congress. Political expert Mark Shanahan called it “wishful thinking,” reflecting Ogles’ loyalty to Trump.
