A Wisconsin judge is threatening to stop court proceedings in protest of a fellow judge’s arrest for allegedly helping a migrant evade.
ICE. Judge Monica Isham warned she won’t hold court in Sawyer County without clear guidance, stating she refuses to risk her or her staff’s safety and won’t allow ICE to detain people in her courtroom without due process.
Her comments followed the arrest of Judge Hannah Dugan, accused of obstructing justice by helping an undocumented immigrant avoid arrest after a court hearing. Federal agents say Dugan led the man through a restricted exit to evade ICE.
Isham said she’s willing to risk her job or arrest for her stance. Officials, including Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, criticized her remarks as “problematic,” while former ICE chief Tom Homan emphasized that judges aren’t above the law.
