‘Wow’: Users React to the Super Bowl Players’ Payouts

The payouts for players in the 2025 Super Bowl have sparked debate online, with many social media users criticizing the large sums athletes receive for their participation. According to the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, winning team players will receive $178,000, while losing team players will earn $103,000. These amounts reflect a tiered system of postseason payments, with compensation increasing each year. Players on the Active, Inactive, or Injured Reserve Lists will also receive full payouts, regardless of whether they play. The payouts have prompted some readers to express dissatisfaction, with comments about players being “overpaid” for “throwing a ball around.” In contrast, Super Bowl performers like Kendrick Lamar do not receive payment for their halftime show, despite its cultural significance. The halftime spectacle, which began in 1993 with Michael Jackson, has since become a major part of the Super Bowl event.
