Brenna was born with Harlequin ichthyosis, a rare genetic condition causing her skin to form thick, plate-like scales. Her parents, Courtney and Evan, faced an uncertain future but were deeply devoted from the start. As Brenna grew, she encountered stares, whispers, and avoidance from others, especially at playgrounds. Courtney often wondered why kindness and simple understanding were so rare.
Despite this, Brenna thrived—bold, joyful, and loved. Her older brother Connor is her protector and best friend, while Evan carefully tends to her skin each night with tender devotion. Though her life looks different, Brenna’s joy and dreams are universal.
Courtney shares their journey through writing, publishing A Different Beautiful in 2016 to raise awareness and foster empathy. Their family hopes to change perceptions around physical differences—from fear to understanding. For them, Brenna embodies beauty, courage, and the power of unconditional love beyond any diagnosis.
