Remembering Dr. Kelly Powers: A Courageous Medical Voice Lost to Brain Cancer
Dr. Kelly Powers, a respected Fox News medical contributor and accomplished surgeon, passed away at the age of 45 after a brave battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. She died Sunday in New Jersey, as announced by Holmdel Funeral Home. Born on May 13, 1979, in Yonkers, Powers forged a remarkable career blending medicine and media.
She held degrees from Baruch College, the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, and the University of San Francisco, and completed residencies at Georgetown and Boston University. Powers was known for her medical expertise and compassionate communication, regularly appearing on Fox News, Fox Business, CNN, and CBS, becoming a trusted public health commentator.
Her cancer journey began dramatically in 2020 when she collapsed during a live Fox segment on heart health, an incident she later described as “unreal.” Despite the diagnosis, she underwent three brain surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation. During her recovery, she welcomed her son, Bennett, sharing lighthearted moments about their matching haircuts due to treatment side effects, calling herself “the luckiest unlucky girl.”
In 2024, when her cancer returned, friends and supporters raised nearly $100,000 to support her experimental treatments. She is survived by her husband, Steven Doll, and their son. Her obituary honors her as “a brave and beautiful soul,” reflecting the deep respect she earned.
Visitation will be held Thursday, followed by a funeral service Friday at Tower Hill Church in Red Bank, New Jersey. Dr. Powers’ legacy of courage, compassion, and dedication to public health continues to inspire many.
