Hollywood Mourns Robert Redford, Icon and Beloved Co-Star, Dead at 89
Hollywood is mourning the loss of Robert Redford, who died at 89 in his Utah home. For many, especially Jane Fonda, the loss feels deeply personal.
Redford wasn’t just a movie star—he defined the term. With sunlit hair, piercing blue eyes, and natural charisma, his presence captivated audiences and directors alike. Fonda, who starred opposite him in multiple films across five decades, said through her representative: “It hit me hard this morning. I can’t stop crying. He meant a lot to me and was a beautiful person in every way.”
Their screen partnership began in the 1960s with Barefoot in the Park, and culminated in 2017’s Our Souls at Night. Their chemistry endured throughout the years. In an Instagram post, Fonda shared a behind-the-scenes photo from their final film and remembered the laughter, pranks, and deep affection they shared. “I fell madly in love with him on that one,” she wrote.
Fonda expressed one regret: she had planned to visit him recently, but waited too long. “Lesson learned. When people are our age, late 80s—don’t wait.”
Her admiration for Redford was no secret. She once joked that looking into his eyes made her forget her lines and quipped, “I’ve been in bed with him a lot—on screen.” Redford, in turn, called her “a force.”
Their bond, from 1967’s youthful spark to their 2017 reunion, remains timeless. Through Fonda’s heartfelt tributes, fans are reminded not only of Redford’s legendary career, but of a cherished friendship that defined an era.
