Heartbreak in Wyoming

Three members of the University of Wyoming swimming and diving team—Carson Muir, 18, of Alabama; Charlie Clark, 19, of Nevada; and Luke Slabber, 21, of South Africa—tragically died in a car accident near the Wyoming-Colorado border. The crash happened at the intersection of Red Mountain Road and U.S. Highway 287 when their Toyota RAV4 veered off the road, rolled multiple times, and ejected two passengers.

Two other teammates were injured but have since been released from the hospital. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, with no factors ruled out so far. Although all five were teammates, they were not traveling for school-related activities.

University President Ed Seidel and Athletics Director Tom Burman expressed deep sorrow over the loss, and counseling support has been offered to students coping with the tragedy. Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon also extended his condolences. The university and the wider community are mourning this sudden and heartbreaking event.
