Violent Incident Targets Federal Agents Near ICE Facility in Broadview, Illinois
Early Friday morning, federal agents near the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Broadview, Illinois, were targeted in a violent attack involving about 10 vehicles, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The agents were boxed in and rammed by multiple cars, with one driver reportedly brandishing a firearm, leading agents to open fire in self-defense.
Trapped inside their vehicles, the agents exited on foot. A woman, a U.S. citizen armed with a semi-automatic weapon, was shot during the confrontation. She then drove herself to a hospital for treatment. DHS officials noted that she had previously been flagged in a Customs and Border Protection bulletin for making online threats.
Fortunately, no federal agents suffered serious injuries. However, DHS raised concerns over the Chicago Police Department’s refusal to assist at the scene, where a growing crowd complicated the situation. DHS deployed special operations units to maintain order.
This event adds to ongoing tensions at the Broadview ICE facility, where nightly protests have aimed to disrupt operations. Authorities report coordinated tactics by demonstrators, including property damage and interference with federal personnel.
Additional federal forces, including ATF and U.S. Border Patrol, have been deployed amid continued demonstrations. DHS criticized local officials for inadequate support as non-lethal crowd control measures are employed. The injured woman remains hospitalized, and authorities continue to monitor the evolving situation.
