Judge Diane Goodstein’s South Carolina Residence Damaged in Fire

Fire Devastates Home of Judge Diane Goodstein on Edisto Beach

On October 4, 2025, a fire engulfed the marshfront home of South Carolina Circuit Court Judge Diane Goodstein on Edisto Beach. Judge Goodstein was away walking her dogs when the blaze broke out, trapping her husband, former state senator Arnold Goodstein, and other family members inside. Arnold escaped by jumping into the marsh and was rescued by neighbors using a canoe and ropes.

Three people were hospitalized—Arnold with serious injuries and others for smoke inhalation and minor burns. The home suffered heavy damage, with investigators from the State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) still probing the cause.

Though the fire followed closely after Judge Goodstein issued a temporary restraining order related to voter registration data, authorities have found no connection to her judicial work. The community has rallied to support the family during this difficult time.
