Fans are mourning the passing of legendary actress Diane Keaton, who died at 79 on October 11. Known for her authenticity and charm, the Oscar-winning star left a lasting impact on Hollywood and audiences worldwide.
Keaton rose to fame as Kay Adams in The Godfather and won an Academy Award for Annie Hall in 1977. With a career spanning decades, she earned three more Oscar nominations, securing her place among cinema’s most beloved performers.
While the cause of her death hasn’t been disclosed, Keaton was open about her health struggles. In a 2015 interview, she revealed a family history of skin cancer, noting that both her father and brother had basal cell carcinoma. She admitted she hadn’t prioritized sun protection in her youth and was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma in her twenties, later developing squamous cell carcinoma that required multiple surgeries.
Keaton also bravely spoke about battling bulimia as a young woman, at one point consuming up to 20,000 calories a day before seeking treatment. “Somebody mentioned I seemed to have mental issues, so I went to an analyst,” she shared.
Her honesty about mental and physical health inspired many to face their own challenges. Even in her later years, Keaton remained active, creative, and deeply connected with fans.
In her final Instagram post, she shared a photo with her dog Reggie, captioning it, “Proof our pets have great taste too! Happy National Pet Day.”
