Newly declassified FBI interview records have reignited allegations that Senator Adam Schiff approved leaks of classified information during the Trump–Russia investigation. According to documents obtained by Just The News, a whistleblower—a Democratic intelligence officer who served on the House Intelligence Committee—told the FBI multiple times between 2017 and 2023 that Schiff authorized leaks intended to politically damage then-President Donald Trump.
At the time, Schiff was the committee’s ranking Democrat and later became chairman. The whistleblower claimed that Representative Eric Swalwell likely acted as the direct source of these leaks, which fueled the “Russiagate” narrative. One FBI summary quoted Schiff telling staff in a meeting that classified information harmful to Trump would be leaked and used to pursue legal action against him.
Swalwell has denied these allegations and criticized FBI Director Kash Patel. The whistleblower also alleged Schiff had been promised the CIA Director position if Hillary Clinton had won in 2016. Despite her loss, Schiff allegedly continued efforts to undermine Trump through strategic leaks.
Although the whistleblower reported these concerns to the FBI, the Justice Department reportedly showed little interest. The whistleblower says they were later fired after raising these issues, raising questions about the government’s handling of internal warnings.
Investigative journalist Paul Sperry suggested leaks may have been funneled to Washington Post reporter Ellen Nakashima, citing her connections to senior intelligence officials. Schiff’s office has yet to comment publicly. If proven, these allegations could have significant legal and political implications given Schiff’s current Senate position.
