Ohio Parents Mourn Loss of Infant Daughter After Tragic NICU Accident
A young Ohio couple is grappling with unimaginable grief after the tragic death of their newborn daughter, Ellieana Peyton, just as they were preparing to bring her home.
Born on March 4, Ellieana was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a rare heart condition. Though the left side of her heart was smaller than normal, family members said she was doing well under close observation at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, where she remained in the NICU for monitoring.
But on March 31, just 29 days after her birth, Ellieana passed away from injuries sustained during a tragic accident.
According to a GoFundMe created by family friend Stella Dunlap, Ellieana’s parents had briefly left the hospital to shower when they received a call no parent should ever hear: their daughter had been accidentally dropped. A nurse had reportedly kept the baby’s monitor cords in her pocket, and as she walked away, Ellieana was dragged from her crib.
The Franklin County Coroner confirmed that Ellieana suffered a fractured skull and brain bleeds, ruling her death accidental.
Her family described her as a radiant soul with a smile that could light up any room. “Her favorite place was in the loving arms of her mommy, daddy, and family,” her obituary reads.
Now, her devastated parents are leaning on community support as they grieve and seek answers.
“She was so loved,” the family shared. Though her life was brief, Ellieana’s memory will live on in the hearts she touched.
