Melissa Sloan, often called Britain’s “most tattooed mother,” recently stunned the public by sharing a rare photo of herself without her trademark ink. Over the past decade, Sloan has accumulated more than 800 tattoos, describing the process as an addiction. “It’s like when you have a cigarette or a drink… I can’t stop,” she said.
After being rejected by tattoo parlors, Sloan began inking herself—three times a week for ten years—using a tattoo gun she keeps in her car. She admits she no longer remembers what she looked like before her body art journey began.
As an experiment, Sloan recently used £3 foundation to cover her tattoos. The transformation shocked her two youngest sons, though not in the way she expected. “They said, ‘Go back to your craziness, mum,’” she shared. “It was like they were looking at a stranger.”
While some praised her bare-faced look, reactions are mixed. Her five older children, from whom she is estranged, reportedly disapprove of her appearance. Online, she’s been mocked and called names like “freak” and “smurf.” Still, Sloan remains unapologetic. “I like to be me, and I’m always going to be myself,” she said, emphasizing that she teaches her kids that beauty takes many forms.
Despite being banned from bars and school events and struggling to find work, she remains hopeful. “I can’t get a job,” she admitted. “But if someone offered me one tomorrow, I’d take it.”
To Sloan, her tattoos are more than ink—they’re symbols of freedom, identity, and self-expression.
