Diane Keaton, Beloved Oscar-Winning Actress, Dies at 79
Hollywood and fans worldwide are mourning the loss of Diane Keaton, the Oscar-winning actress celebrated for her wit, authenticity, and timeless style. Keaton passed away at the age of 79.
While the cause of death has not been publicly disclosed, 911 audio obtained by TMZ revealed a call made on the morning of October 11. Emergency responders arrived at her Los Angeles home and transported her to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her family confirmed to People that she passed “peacefully,” though friends say her sudden decline came as a shock.
“She declined very suddenly,” one longtime friend shared. “Even those close to her weren’t fully aware of how serious it was.” Songwriter Carole Bayer Sager, who collaborated with Keaton on “First Christmas,” recalled seeing her weeks earlier: “She had lost a lot of weight but was still curious, still shining her light.”
Despite recent health struggles and displacement after wildfires damaged her home, Keaton remained spirited. “She was funny right up to the end,” a friend said. “She lived exactly how she wanted — on her own terms.”
Tributes poured in from across Hollywood. Goldie Hawn wrote, “We aren’t ready to lose you… Shine up there, girlfriend.” Bette Midler added, “She was hilarious, a complete original.”
From The Godfather to Annie Hall, Keaton redefined the leading lady. She is survived by her children, Dexter and Duke, and leaves behind a legacy of art, laughter, and fearless individuality.
