The New York Police Department is mourning the loss of Detective Alicia Stone, who died a week after undergoing cosmetic surgery in Colombia.
According to the New York Post, Stone, a 13-year NYPD veteran and mother of three, traveled to Cali for a Brazilian butt lift and liposuction. She was found unresponsive in her hotel room around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, and rushed to Fundación Valle del Lili Hospital, where she was pronounced dead an hour later.
Reports list her cause of death as “unspecified cardiac arrest.” Her husband, Michael Stone, is calling for an investigation, saying his wife was “perfectly fine” before surgery and had told family she felt well the day before. “The doctor called to tell me my wife had passed away,” he told the Daily News. “Something just doesn’t add up.”
Sources say Stone had been prescribed anticoagulants and pain medication as part of her post-operative care and was recovering at a hotel after being discharged. Michael Stone said he plans to request an autopsy to determine what truly caused her death.
A Brazilian Butt Lift, or gluteal fat transfer, involves removing fat from one area of the body and injecting it into the buttocks to enhance shape and volume. Experts note that while rare, complications such as fat embolisms—when fat enters the bloodstream and blocks arteries—can be fatal if fat is injected too deeply.
Detective Alicia Stone served in the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau. She is remembered as a dedicated officer, wife, and mother.
Rest in peace, Detective Stone.
