Erika Kirk, widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has vowed to uphold her late husband’s legacy after his assassination at Utah Valley University last month. Charlie Kirk was fatally shot in the neck while hosting a Turning Point USA event, leaving behind Erika and their two children. In the aftermath, Erika assumed leadership of Turning Point USA as its new CEO, promising to “complete his vision” for the organization.
True to her word, Erika hosted a “This Is the Turning Point” event at the University of Mississippi on October 29, where Vice President JD Vance — a longtime friend of the late Kirk — was invited to speak. Introducing him, Erika described Vance as “a very, very dear friend,” adding that while “no one will ever replace my husband,” she saw “some similarities in JD.”
Their embrace onstage drew attention online after Erika placed her hand on the back of Vance’s head during the hug — a gesture some social media users labeled “intimate” or “weird.” Critics joked about potential awkwardness with Vance’s wife, Usha, while others defended the moment as a display of grief and friendship.
During his remarks, Vance also addressed his wife’s Hindu upbringing and expressed hope she might one day embrace Christianity, though he said her faith was ultimately “something you work out.” UNILAD reached out to both Vance and Turning Point USA for comment, but neither had publicly responded at the time of reporting.
