North Dakota Republican Senator Kevin Cramer is recovering after a seizure and brain bleed caused by a fall on ice at his home.
Cramer shared the incident on social media, saying he is now resting at home after the frightening event over the weekend. In a Facebook post, he described the accident: “Late yesterday afternoon, I walked to my backyard intending to retrieve a piece of conduit which came off my dock and was laying on the ice. While walking on the hill down to the dock, I stepped on ice and evidently fell hard, hitting the back of my head.”
The fall caused him to lose consciousness. He did not wake up until arriving at a local emergency room, assisted by his wife, Kris. The senator emphasized that he is now receiving care and focusing on recovery.
Cramer thanked supporters for their messages and well-wishes, adding that he would take time to rest and allow his body to heal. While no further details were provided about the severity of his condition, the senator’s update reassured the public that he is stable and under medical supervision.
The incident highlights the dangers of icy conditions in winter months, which can lead to severe injuries, especially for older adults. Despite the unexpected accident, Cramer expressed gratitude for the immediate support he received and urged caution when navigating icy areas.
As he continues his recovery at home, constituents and colleagues alike have sent messages of concern and support, wishing the senator a full and speedy return to health.
