A Wichita neighborhood was shaken on October 31, 2025, when police responding to a “reported cutting” discovered 80-year-old Anita Avers fatally stabbed in her Crowley Street home. Officers arrived around 7:52 a.m. and found Avers unresponsive in bed; she was pronounced dead shortly after at a nearby hospital.
Outside the home, authorities detained Angelynn “Angie” Elizabeth Mock, 47, Avers’s daughter and a former Fox News anchor. Mock was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, with bond set at $1 million. A neighbor recounted, “A woman came up to our car covered in blood, asking to call 911.” Dispatch recordings captured a female voice claiming she “stabbed her mother to save herself,” though authorities have not confirmed a formal self-defense claim. Investigators continue examining the motive, weapon, and sequence of events.
Mock’s career included reporting roles at KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City, KTVI FOX 2 in St. Louis, and earlier stints in Montana, Nebraska, and Minnesota. In recent years, she worked in corporate consulting and nonprofit initiatives.
Elsewhere, domestic violence and youth violence tragedies have continued: 20-year-old Michigan student Sarah Carroll was killed in a suspected murder-suicide on August 30, 2025, while nine Myrtle Beach–area teens face charges in the June 24 shooting death of 16-year-old Trey Dean Wright. Officials cited a relationship dispute as the catalyst.
Authorities urge anyone in danger to seek help. Contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or text 988 for mental health support.
