A recent CNN/SSRS survey of 1,245 U.S. adults shows Americans growing skeptical of former President Donald Trump and concerned about the state of the nation. Trump’s approval rating has dropped to 37% from 47% earlier this year, while 63% disapprove of his performance—one of the lowest points recorded during his presidency.
Economic worries dominate public sentiment: 47% cite inflation, rising costs, and financial pressures as their top concerns. Other issues, such as democracy and political stability (26%) and immigration (10%), lag behind.
The survey also highlights unease about government authority, with 61% saying executive power has been used “too far,” reflecting broader concerns over checks and balances. Overall, 68% of respondents feel the nation is doing “pretty” or “very badly,” signaling widespread pessimism.
As the midterm elections approach, the nation appears divided: 41% plan to vote against Trump’s leadership, while 21% support it. Despite this, Trump continues to assert confidence in his base, even as public opinion trends downward.
The findings depict a nation wrestling with economic strain, political division, and uncertainty about its leadership and direction.
