Authorities are investigating a disturbing case of child abuse after a 3-year-old boy was hospitalized with severe injuries allegedly inflicted by his stepfather while the child’s mother was at work.
According to police, the boy suffered significant trauma to his head, chest, and legs. The injuries were discovered after his grandmother became concerned about his condition and contacted authorities. Medical examinations determined that the child’s wounds were inconsistent with accidental causes, prompting an immediate investigation.
Initially, the stepfather claimed the boy’s 5-year-old brother was responsible for the injuries, saying the siblings had been playing roughly. However, investigators quickly found discrepancies in his account. Evidence later revealed that the man had beaten the child after he wet the bed — an act authorities described as “severe and deliberate.”
The child’s mother initially denied that any abuse had occurred, telling officers that her son’s injuries were the result of a fall. Further questioning and forensic findings, however, contradicted her statement.
The stepfather was taken into custody and charged with domestic violence and child abuse resulting in serious bodily harm. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed pending review by the district attorney’s office.
The 3-year-old is currently receiving medical treatment and remains under protective supervision. Child welfare officials have since removed both children from the home and placed them in temporary care while the case proceeds.
Authorities commended the grandmother’s quick action, noting that her decision to speak up likely prevented further harm. “When something feels wrong, reporting it can save a child’s life,” a spokesperson for the local police department said.
