A father and daughter tragically lost their lives Monday in a small plane crash in Coral Springs, Florida, while en route to Jamaica on a humanitarian relief mission.
Alexander Wurm, 53, and his daughter Serena, 22, were aboard a flight organized to deliver hurricane relief supplies when the aircraft went down in a residential waterway shortly after taking off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation into the crash.
The Wurms were deeply committed to service. Through Ignite the Fire Ministry, the faith-based organization they helped lead, Alexander was remembered for his “warmth and unwavering kindness” and a life devoted to helping others. Serena was described as “a beacon of empathy and hope,” following in her father’s footsteps to make humanitarian work her life’s mission.
“Together, their final journey embodied selflessness and courage, reminding us of the power of service and love,” the ministry said in a statement.
Alexander and Serena are survived by wife and mother Candace Wurm, and by Alexander’s two other children, James, 17, and Christiana, 20. No one else was injured in the crash, which occurred roughly five minutes after takeoff.
For those who knew them, the loss is profound — not only as a tragedy, but as the passing of two people whose lives were dedicated to compassion, faith, and service. Their legacy continues to inspire all who were touched by their generosity and devotion.
