A Texas school bus carrying 43 people rolled over on a rural road outside Austin earlier this week, sending ten people, including nine students, to the hospital. The incident occurred just after school ended on Wednesday, before any students had been dropped off.
Officials with Travis County Emergency Services reported that one injury was life-threatening, and two others were potentially life-threatening. The bus, a 2024 model, veered off the right side of the road before rolling over. While the cause remains unclear, authorities noted a slight curve in the road.
Leader Independent School District’s Bruce Gerring said the driver was experienced, but it’s unknown how many students were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Video footage showed the bus on its side, with a damaged roof and several broken windows.
The district emphasized support for the students and families affected. “Our prayers are with them, and we will do everything in our power to support them,” Gerring said. A later update confirmed that all those hospitalized have since been released.
The rollover serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures on school transportation and the potential dangers of rural road travel.
