Man Arrested in Drive-By Shooting at Sacramento TV Station; Political Note Discovered
SACRAMENTO, CA — A 64-year-old man has been arrested and federally charged after allegedly firing multiple rounds at Sacramento’s ABC10 television station in what authorities believe may have been a politically motivated act.
The suspect, Anibal Hernandez-Santana, was initially arrested by local police on September 19 for firing into the lobby of the KXTV building. Although the building was occupied, no one was injured. He was released on $200,000 bail but was quickly re-arrested by federal agents on more serious charges.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, federal authorities charged Hernandez-Santana with possessing and discharging a firearm in a school zone and interfering with a radio communication station. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and $250,000 in fines for the firearm charges, and one year with additional fines for the interference charge.
What has drawn national attention is a handwritten note discovered in the suspect’s vehicle. The note referenced former Trump administration officials: “For hiding Epstein & ignoring red flags. Do not support Patel, Bongino, & AG Pam Bondi. They’re next. — C.K. from above.” Investigators also found a calendar on the suspect’s refrigerator with the phrase “Do the Next Scary Thing” written on the date of the attack.
Authorities are also reviewing Hernandez-Santana’s social media activity, which included anti-Trump posts and calls for action against political figures. His attorney claims he is being unfairly targeted for his views, though the FBI says the case is being treated as a matter of public safety and not ideology.
The incident took place just one day after protests erupted outside ABC10, tied to the suspension of late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, whose political commentary had stirred backlash.
Though no injuries were reported, law enforcement officials have emphasized the seriousness of the attack and warned that politically motivated violence — regardless of affiliation — will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Hernandez-Santana remains in federal custody pending trial.
